Stuff – Countdown’s supply chain policy sparks questions about Westland Dairy Company dealings with Gloriavale Christian Community

Countdown’s efforts to make sure that its supply chains aren’t sustaining illegal labour practices, including child labour, have prompted the supermarket chain to question Westland Dairy Company dealings with the Gloriavale Christian Community.

The dairy company attempted to distance itself from Gloriavale farms by indefinitely suspending milk collection after an Employment Court decision criticised the community’s use of volunteer and child labour, but it agreed to continue taking milk until a High Court injunction sought by Canaan Farming Dairy Limited is heard in late July.
