Stuff – Employed from as young as 6 – ruling likely to mean changes at Gloriavale

OPINION: For the last few years a group of three former members of the South Island Gloriavale Christian community have been seeking action on what they claimed were extensive breaches of employment rights at Gloriavale.
The Labour Inspectorate had already twice visited Gloriavale and reached the conclusion that the members of the community were not employees but rather volunteers.
The Employment Court has now delivered its decision, finding that Hosea and Levi Courage, and Daniel Pilgrim were employees from as early as 6 years old.
