The Gloriavale Leavers' Support Trust has created heaps of resources to help both leavers and those who assist them in resettling.

Leaving Gloriavale can be extremely stressful and traumatic and it comes with a sense of grief and loss about what the leaver no longer has, along with anxiety for what lies ahead. This is normal and the transition period can be rocky, but there is also much to be excited about. This is a Journey of Hope. The person who is leaving might not even realise the enormity of what they have done, but over time it might hit them like a wave. For many weeks and months they might feel displaced and run a roller coaster of emotions.

The Gloriavale Leavers’ Support Trust has written a Healthy Transitions resource which is useful for those people who help leavers (hosts, counsellors, social service agencies, ministers etc). It gives them an understanding of how to help leavers most effectively and to assist in deprogramming them from living in a high-control group. There are sessions on grief, trauma, emotional abuse, physical health, how to handle panic attacks etc.

We’ve also produced a Leaving Manual which outlines all the steps necessary to help leavers work through the practical issues like setting up bank accounts, WINZ, job hunting etc.

Our resources will eventually include…
