The Education Review Office has a lot to answer for. They went up and down the Coast saying this school and that school were not up to standard. ERO would put manager in the take over the school and bring it up to the standard ERO know was correct. If the children were barefoot and brown they could not be getting ‘correct’ education. The browner they were, the less correct education they were getting. All the while in Gloriavale — pretty, white and in uniform, all correct — a generation of children were getting abused.

ERO should hide its head away for the disgraceful treatment of the Coast schools. Their expectation of correct education is flawed — they have proven that if you are white and all looking the same then you must be doing a good job. Sadly, their model is flawed.

The damage ERO has done will never be fixed. ERO will appoint a review person and nothing will change. In my view, they should banished forever as an organisation.
