TVNZ wins access to Gloriavale judgments

| Greymouth Star |

TVNZ has been granted access to documents held by the Employment Court relating to suppression orders and judgments involving Gloriavale members.

In an interlocutory judgment made on February 12, Chief Employment Court Judge Christina Inglis has permitted the TVNZ Natural History Unit access to copies of all suppression orders and judgments made in both the Courage and Pilgrim proceedings, previously heard in the court.

The application was sought to ensure compliance with court orders and Broadcasting Standards Authority requirements in the development of a documentary series on Gloriavale.

Judge Inglis said she accepted that providing access to the material was appropriate and aligned with the interests of justice.

None of the parties affected had opposed the application.

The judgment notes that the suppression orders were made in criminal proceedings relating to Gloriavale, and those orders must be complied with in the course of the planned TVNZ piece.
