Gloriavale leavers share their stories at launch of new support trust

Joy Courage left Gloriavale “because my husband was a rebel”.
The Geraldine woman said her husband was kicked out of the religious community because of his refusal to follow restrictions.
She debated whether or not to stay without him, then decided to go.
But just six months later, under “constant pressure” from her husband’s parents, she loaded her children into a car and drove under cover of night to Ashburton – where Gloriavale members were waiting to take her back to the West Coast.
