Sue Barker: Charity Law Association director on Gloriavale losing their charitable status following investigation
There’s belief Gloriavale’s trust has already faced consequences for serious conduct, including child labour, and deregistration is ‘excessive’.
The Christian Church Community Trust is being de-registered tomorrow, after a Government investigation uncovered dangerous working conditions and children working.
Charity Law Association director Sue Barker says the decision is an unnecessarily harsh response.
“They’ve appointed independent trustees, they’ve got a new chief executive, they speak about the personal costs trustees have undergone, they’re trying to turn things around. It just seems to me like the modern day equivalent of a medieval public flogging.”
