Gloriavale man beat daughter until she fainted over relationship with boy: Stuff

A Gloriavale man has been convicted for beating his daughter with a computer cord until she fainted because she was in a relationship with a boy outside marriage.

Aaron Courage, 50, was convicted of assault with a weapon and discharged when he appeared in the Greymouth District Court on Thursday.

Judge Stephen O’Driscoll said the only reason Courage was in court was because he voluntarily confessed to police 10 years after the assault.

Defence lawyer Marilyn Gilchrist applied for a discharge without conviction and permanent name suppression, which police opposed and the judge declined.
